Student Success Story: Petya Plachkova

Updated: Dec 9, 2019

We spoke to recent graduate Petya Plachkova about her career journey since leaving UWS.

"My name is Petya Plachkova, and I’m Bulgarian. I came to Scotland to study journalism in UWS. I had a great experience in uni, and in Scotland in general- I met a lot of great people that quickly became my friends and and I still stay in touch with some of them, even though we are in different countries.

Today, I am back in Bulgaria working as a radio talk show host In my beautiful hometown Plovdiv . My show is called PartyZone and it is a musical type of program about contemporary hit music. However, I do enjoy adding different segments to it by looking into different topics that interest the people of Plovdiv.

Thanks to UWS and the opportunities that were presented to me, I fell in love with broadcasting, and now I am fulfilling one of my dreams.

For someone that has graduated just a few months ago, it is definitely not easy to find a job in journalism. Most companies offer unpaid internships, so getting an actual job requires some luck too.

It does take a lot of hard work and patience but if  you believe in yourself and in your abilities, it’ll all pay off!"
