Programmer leader for BA (Hons) New Media Art, Trent Kim spoke to us about the course.
"BA(Hons) New Media Art helps students discover and develop their own artistic practices through exploring diverse platforms from illustration, moving image, animation, multimedia live performance/installation, projection mapping, sound art, creative coding and immersive media (360 Filming/AR/VR).
Through learning and exploring historical, contemporary, cultural and social contexts of New Media Art, students become ‘Technical’, ‘Critical’ and ‘Creative’ practitioners.
Whether it is a problem solving, or conceptual and philosophical inquiry, our students as emerging creative practitioners work towards original artistic interventions through various media technologies.
The programme provides regular showcase and collaboration opportunities to students. The current partnerships include museums and galleries of South Ayrshire Council, Bread Arts Lab, Tsukure Hub, Dunure Development Working Group and Seisa-Dohto University (Hokkaido, Japan).
Our programme will provide you with the skills to place you in a strong position within the creative landscape, with in-depth arts training, whilst developing your abilities to explore and experiment with new media and digital technologies.
Our Ayr campus offers various creative facilities from art studios, computer labs, TV studios, music studios and performance spaces and New Media Art students greatly benefit this multi-disciplinary and creative learning environment.
As a graduate, your broad range of artistic and technological skills and experience will create a diverse range of career opportunities across fine art, illustration, media art, animation, moving image, theatre design, projection art, community arts and art education but also academic opportunities to pursue postgraduate studies."
